In regard to Sihu Township, the so-called “river” refers to “Datu River” during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. At that time, it is the main riverway of Choshui River, and now its name is changed to “Old Choshui River”. “Lake” refers to the two lakes of “Lunzai Cuo Lake” and “Shazai Lake” which are respectively situated in the two sides of railway of Sihu Sugar Factory and now they are gone. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the Pingpu nationality of Dongluo Society came here for reclamation and tenancy and there were “rivers and lakes” here, so they named it as Sihu.
Sihu Township is located in the center of Changhua County as well as the central position of western Taiwan, where it is next to Puxin Township and Dacun Township to the east, Yongjing Township, Tianwei Township, and Pitou Township to the south, Erlin Township to the west, Puyan Township to the north. The total area is 32.0592 square kilometers where 25 villages are divided.
Meanwhile, being located in Changhua Plain, Sihu owns fertile soil and transportation extending in all directions, so it has become one of the most important vegetable producing areas and terminal markets all around Taiwan. In addition to the supply for Taiwan, lots of vegetables are exported to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. And chives flowers enjoy the greatest reputation among all the vegetables.
In the 1970s, Sihu Township was the important township of feather processing. Nowadays, there are many feather processing factories in Dongliao Village and Xiliao Village, which brings huge tax income to Sihu Township. After the 1980s, these factories gradually declined. Sihu Township was ever the important processing area of spare parts of bicycles and its competitiveness is poor due to factory relocation in recent years.
Nowadays, Sihu is famous for sightseeing track in Sihu Sugar Factory, Military Secret Park, Mutton Stew and Kyoho grape.
